Submissions
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
- Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
- The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
- This manuscript has a maximum of four authors.
Articles
Scope and Relevance:
- Submissions must focus on the geopolitical, political, social, economic, legal, and/or cultural dynamics of Eurasia as defined by the journal.
- The defined regions include Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltic countries, certain regions of Southern Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus. Submissions that involve bordering regions or additional areas with historical and cultural relevance are also welcomed.
- Articles connecting these regions with other parts of the globe are acceptable, provided the Eurasian aspect is central to the analysis.
Originality and Quality:
- Submissions must be original works that present new insights or findings in the field.
- Manuscripts must not be under consideration or previously published elsewhere.
- All submissions will undergo plagiarism checks to ensure originality.
Language:
- Articles can be submitted in Portuguese, Spanish, or English.
- Authors are responsible for ensuring that submissions meet the language standards of the journal. Non-native speakers are encouraged to seek language editing services.
Manuscript Preparation:
- Submissions should adhere to the journal’s formatting guidelines, including structure, citation style, and length requirements.
- Manuscripts must include:
- Title
- Abstract (between 100 and 300 words)
- Keywords (from 3 to 5)
- Main text (maximum 60 thousand characters)
- References
- Any figures, tables, and appendices as necessary
Ethical Standards:
- Authors must conform to ethical standards in research and publication.
- Any potential conflicts of interest should be disclosed.
- Authors should ensure proper citation and attribution of all sources and data.
Peer Review Process:
- All submissions will undergo a double-blind peer review process to ensure impartiality and academic rigor.
- Authors must be willing to revise their manuscripts based on reviewers’ feedback.
Submission Process:
- Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis.
- Authors should submit their manuscripts through the journal’s online submission system.
Publication and Responsibility:
- The editorial team reserves the right to accept or reject submissions.
- Once published, the opinions expressed in articles are solely those of the authors and do not reflect the views of the journal or its editors.
Book reviews
Scope and Relevance:
- Reviews can be submitted by undergraduate students, people with a bachelor's degree or similar, graduate students, people with a master's degree or with a PhD.
- Book reviews must cover works published in the last 5 years, be they literature books or works related to the geopolitical, political, social, economic, legal, and/or cultural dynamics of the Eurasian regions as defined by the journal.
- The books reviewed should focus mainly on themes and subjects linked to Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltics, certain regions of Southern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus, but may also include relevant works from neighboring regions such as Afghanistan, Greece, Turkey, Xinjiang, etc.
- Reviews of books that connect these Eurasian regions with other parts of the world are welcome, provided the Eurasian aspect is central to the work.
Content and Structure:
- Provide a comprehensive summary of the book’s content.
- Provide context on how the book fits within existing literature and its relevance to current academic, cultural and/or policy debates on the Eurasian regions, their histories and customs.
- Include a short discussion on the author’s credentials.
Language:
- Book reviews can be submitted in Portuguese, Spanish, or English.
- Authors are responsible for ensuring that their reviews conform to the journal’s language standards. Non-native speakers are encouraged to have their reviews proofread for language accuracy.
Length and Format:
- Book reviews should range from 1,000 to 5,000 characters.
- Use a structured format with the following elements:
- Full bibliographic reference for the book being reviewed, including title, author(s), publisher, year of publication, number of pages, and ISBN.
- Introduction summarizing the book’s main message, theme and/or objectives.
- Critical analysis assessing the book’s contributions and shortcomings.
- Conclusion offering final thoughts on the book’s overall impact and value to enthusiasts of Eurasia.
Ethical Considerations:
- Reviewers should disclose any potential conflicts of interest, such as personal or professional connections to the author(s) of the book.
- Reviews should be fair, balanced, and respectful, providing constructive criticism, if any.
Submission Procedure:

Editorial Process:
- Book reviews will be evaluated by the editorial team for relevance, quality, and adherence to the journal’s guidelines.
- The editorial team reserves the right to request revisions or to reject reviews that do not meet the journal’s standards.

- The opinions expressed in book reviews are solely those of the reviewers and do not necessarily reflect the views of the journal’s editorial board.
- Once published, reviews become part of the journal’s scholarly record.
Economic/political analysis
1. Scope and Relevance:
- Submissions must focus on the geopolitical, political, social, economic, legal, and/or cultural dynamics of Eurasia as defined by the journal.
- The analysis should primarily involve regions including Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltic countries, regions of Southern Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus. Articles or economic/political analyses involving bordering regions with historical and cultural relevance or a connections to the above regions are also welcomed.
- Topics that interconnect these Eurasian regions with other global areas are acceptable if the Eurasian aspect is central to the analysis.
2. Originality and Academic Rigor:
- Submissions must be original works that contribute new insights to the field of Eurasian studies.
- All submissions will be checked for originality.
3. Language:
- Texts can be submitted in Portuguese, Spanish, or English.
- Authors are responsible for ensuring their submissions meet the language quality standards of the journal. Non-native speakers are encouraged to have their work reviewed for language accuracy before submission.
4. Manuscript Format:
- Submissions should follow the specific formatting guidelines provided by the journal, including citation style, structure, and length. The manuscripts must have between 13,000 and 18,000 characters (including spaces and footnotes).
- All manuscripts should include an abstract and keywords.
5. Peer Review Process:
- All submissions undergo a double-blind peer review process to ensure impartiality and academic rigor.
- Authors should be prepared to respond to reviewers' comments and potentially revise their submission accordingly.
6. Ethical Considerations:
- Texts should adhere to ethical standards in research, including the responsible conduct of research, and must avoid conflicts of interest.
